The Denver Octet – the Night Sweats led by frontman Nathaniel Rateliff played at Redmond’s Marymoor Concerts outdoor theater over the weekend. The show was undoubtedly a highlight of the summer concert season.
The folksy, soulful, roots-rock group became a household name after their television performance of their single ‘S.O.B.’ became a national success. The 7 members of the Night Sweats accompany Rateliff on stage with pulsating, boot stomping music including horns. The fans loved the energy on stage and danced along with Rateliff throughout the night.
Rateliff grew up in a family Gospel band playing the drums. Later, after his father’s passing at the age of 13, he stated writing songs and learning guitar. After a long journey of playing and writing music and gaining a following in Denver, he is now headlining shows across the nation.
Below are two videos from the show – the first entitled ‘You Worry Me’ from his album ‘Tearing at the Seams’ and the second, his closing song of the night – ‘ S.O.B.’
New Zealand Indie rock band The Beths stopped by Seattle’s retro Chop Suey nightclub last night as part of their 2019 North American summer tour in support of their album ‘Future Me Hates Me’. The album has been noted as one of most impressive indie-rock albums of the year. Which likely attributes to their sold-out shows. Last night the Seattle venue was packed from wall to wall, and from front to back with hot, sweaty fans anticipating the band’s entrance.
The pop-punk band members, including lead singer and guitarist Elizabeth Stokes, boyfriend and guitarist Jonathan Pearce and bassist Ben Sinclair met in college while studying jazz. They describe their music as ‘guitar music’ and it’s very apparent in the unique sounds and performances. Guitar music is just what they like. Stokes writes most when she’s feeling emotional – either super stoked or super upset. Many of the lyrics on their latest album reflect Stokes feelings about romance and all the self-doubts and over-thinking associated with it.

The Young’uns are one of the UK’s hottest folk music properties and one of the best-loved acts from Stockton, England. Awarded BBC Radio 2 Folk as the “Best Group” in 2015 and 2016, they specialize in singing unaccompanied and performing traditional shanties. The three members- Sean Cooney, David Eagle, and Michael Hughes met as teenagers and encountered folk music as underage drinkers in a local pub.
The Trio started frequenting the Sun Inn in Stockton-on-Tees in 2003. As folk newbies, the three realized that singing unaccompanied could mean starting a new band without any instruments. With their strong songs and rapid-fire humor, they could touch the most current issues and make people laugh as well as cry.
The Young’uns released a book “Bound Together” which centered around their history as a band and stories behind some of their songwriting. Their work also includes “You Won’t Find Me on Benefits Street”, “The Battle of Stockton”, and 9 new songs from the 2017 album Strangers.
