CHICAGO- THE MUSICAL

Chicago is an American musical based on a 1926 play in jazz-age Chicago where reporter Maurine Dallas Watkins reports on actual criminals and crimes of that time. The story is a satire on corruption in the administration of criminal justice and the concept of the “celebrity criminal”. A woman is sent to prison for the murder of a man. In prison she meet another murderess. They vie for the same lawyer to help win their freedom and play the public from prison to help win fame for when they are finally free.

It has everything that makes Broadway great – a universal tale of fame, show-stopping songs, fortune and all that jazz – with music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and book by Ebb and Bob Fosse.

Chicago – The musical has been honored with 6 Tony Awards, 2 Olivier Awards, a Grammy Award and thousands of standing ovations. Chicago has amazed audiences around the world from Mexico City to Moscow, Sau Paulo to South Africa.

Chicago was revived on Broadway in 1996 and holds the record as the longest-running musical revival and also the longest-running American musical in Broadway history. It has been staged in numerous productions around the world and toured extensively in the UK and US.
